ABOUT MARTIN LANE

Martin Lane was born in Germiston to a family of talented musicians. He is one of few natural musicians that have the capability to play any tune he hears immediately in any key without any notes and chords. He received formal piano training until completing school and starts focussing on the organ, one of his beloved instruments.

Martin Lane has been a well known face in his local community, playing piano at church and other events. During his Grade 11 year he started an orchestra with three of his friends. They are invited to play at parties and school concerts. He attended schools in Lictenburg, Klerksdorp as well as Carletonville.

During his military training in the Cape, he started yet another band, bringing music to the locals.

Martin Lane is an avid music fan, and adores classical and opera. His broad musical knowledge is apparent when testing his skills to recognize tunes. He loves a challenge and will play the tune of any famous song from hearing only 2 notes.

He performs as a solo artist but also enjoys playing for other artists. He regularly plays the organ, piano and keyboard and has a repertoire of over 1200 classical and light music items, all memorized!!

He has written several songs (either composed or written lyrics) for artists including Ge Korsten, Rina Hugo, Herbie and Spence, Roy Bulkin, Tameletjie, Vicki du Preez, Sonja Herholdt, Jurie Els, Rudi Neitz, Barbara Veenemans and much more. As lyricist, he is well known for the song “Heidi”, recorded by many South African artists.

His peaceful style on any instrument has made him an everyday name and he has released 28 albums already! He has been involved in broadcasting since 1966 and is currently in service at RSG’s music department. In 2010 he started his own Classical Lable called “Martin Lane Classics” with EMI.

Martin Lane drew a lot of attention with the fifties hit “Remembrance” (by Freddie Carle) and became a favourite amongst lovers of piano music. His devoted fans inform him of classics they would love him to record.

His album “Piano Moods” received golden status in September 2003, selling over 25 000 copies. He has performed at over 6 000 functions, weddings, burials and corporate events. His most recent performances include Innibos [Nelspruit], the AULA [Tukkies campus] and several well publisized media weddings of these celebrities: Christo Snyman [Snyman Broers], Jurie Els and Hestrie, Alvin Bruinders and Anrika, Schalk Baard [Navi Redd] and Mandi [“Lara” from Egoli], Etienne Ludick of RSG and the popular singer Rudi Muller.
